    LT James Lockhart
    BIRTH 1743
    Augusta County, Virginia, USA
    DEATH 1805 (aged 61–62)
    Virginia, USA

James was born about 1743. In 1763, he married Mary "Polly" Mitchell in Virginia. Mary was born December 20, 1742 in Augusta County, Virginia. She died in 1782, in Augusta County, Virginia. The memorial for Mary "Polly" Lockhart (1742-1828), is assumed to be the same person, but with a different death date. If she is the same person, then she married Andrew Lockhart (1737-1815), in 1770. Perhaps she divorced James and married his older brother. That's a lot to assume without more proof. Nevertheless, James and Mary had the following known children:

    Charles Lockhart (1768-?)
    Benjamin Lockhart (1769-?)
    William Mitchell Lockhart (1778-1830)

Later, James married Rachel Totten circa 1783, in Tazewell, Virginia. They had the following known children:

    Rachel Lockhart Harrison (1784-1832)
    Charity Lockhart Pritchett (c.1785-?)
    Margaret Lockhart (c.1786-?)
    Bird Lockhart (1787-1860)

In 1800, James was a member of the first grand jury of Tazewell County. In 1804, he was appointed Lieutenant in the First Battalion, 112th Regiment of the Virginia Militia.
