“The late Earl of Abercorn was born in the year 1712, and succeeded his father in 1744.—He was the only Nobleman in the kingdom (not of the Blood Royal) who united in his own person the honours of the Peerage of England, Scotland, and Ireland.

“His Lordship was Earl and Baron of Abercorn and Baron of Paisley; also Viscount and Baron Strabane, in Ireland, and Baron Mountcastle, Kilpatrick, a Baronet, and a Privy Counsellor of the same kingdom; Viscount Hamilton in England, and a Vice President of the Foundling Hospital.

“His Lordship died unmarried; he was summoned by writ to the House of Peers in Ireland in 1736, succeeded his father as Earl of Abercorn, Jan. 13, 1744, and was created Viscount Hamilton on the 8th of August, 1786.

“He is succeeded in his honours and estates by his nephew, the Hon. John James Hamilton, Member of Parliament for St. Germain's. His Lordship has died possessed of immense property. Besides his landed estates, which are very extensive, he has left upwards of two hundred thousand pounds in money, the greatest part of which is secured on mortgage.”
