    On this 22 day of January 1819, before me, the subscriber, one of d the Judges of the Gen’l. Court for the State of Virg’a. personally appeared James Bridget aged 68 years, resident in Rockbridge County Virginia who, being by me first duly sworn, according to law, doth, on his oath, make the following declaration, in order to obtain the provision made by the late act of Congress, entitled “An act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the revolutionary war:”
    That he, the said James Bridget enlisted for the term of three years on the [blank] day of [blank] in the year (ye date not recollected tho It was near the commencement of the war in August County in the state of Virginia in the company commanded by Captain Simms [sic: John Symmes] of the 6th Virg’a. Regiment [originally the 10th] of the Regiment commanded by Colonel [Abraham] Buford in the line of the State of Virginia on the Continental Establishment; that he continued to serve in the said corps, or in the service of the United States, until the expiration of three years & afterwards enlisted during the war & served untill he was wounded & disabled in the battle of Guilford [Guilford Courthouse NC, 15 Mar 1781] That at the close of the war he was regularly disch’d by Gen’l. Muhlenberg in Winchester at the close of the war he having enlisted at the expiration of his first term during the war That he was in the battles of Brandywine [11 Sep 1777] Germantown [4 Oct 1777] Monmouth [28 Jun 1778] taking of Stoney Point [sic: Stony Point NY, 16 Jul 1779] Bufords defeat [Battle of Waxhaws SC, 29 May 1780] & Guilford Courthouse where he was wounded and that he is in reduced circumstances, and stands in need of the assistance of his country for support; and that he has no other evidence now in his power of his said services.

    On this 31st day of January 1820 before me the subscriber one of the Judges of the Gen’l. Court for the State of Virginia personally appeared James Bridget aged sixty nine years resident in the County of Rockbridge in said State who by me being first duly sworn according to Law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the provision made by the late act of Congress entitled “an act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land & naval service of the United States in the revolutionary war that he the said James Bridget enlisted for the Term of three years with Capt Sims who then belonged to the 10th Virginia Regiment on Continental establishment in the Spring of the year 1777 to the Best of his recollection that said 10th Reg’t. was at that time Commanded by Colo. Stephens [sic: Edward Stevens] – that he served his three years at the expiration whereof he then Enlisted during the war in the company commanded by Capt Thos. Bowyer which company belonged to the Sixth Virginia Reg’t. on continental establishment That he continued in the service under his last enlistment during the war & was regularly discharged in the Town of Winchester in the State of Virginia by Gen’l. Muhlenberg
    That during his service he was in the Battles of Brandywine, Germantown, Monmouth, at the storming of Stoney Point, at Bufords defeat & at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in North Carolina where he got his right leg broken by a Ball that he has rec’d. a small pension from the State of Virg’a. which he agrees to relinquish for the compensation sought for That he is now aged, infirm, & very poor & needs the aid of his Country for his support. That most of his officers & fellow soldiers are either dead or far removed beyond his power of obtaining their testimony in support of the foregoing declaration – Sworn to & declared before me the day & year aforesaid Arch. Stuart
    Virg’a. Rockbridge County to wit on this 7th day of Nov’r. 1820 personally appeared in open Court being a Court of Record for the said county of Rockbridge James Bridget aged about seventy years resident in said county who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath declare that he served in the revolutionary war as follows that he enlisted for three years that he enlisted in capt John Sems company [Cln] Stephens General Greens [sic: Nathanael Greene’s] that he served the whole term of his enlistment and afterwards entered during the revolutionary war and served untill peace was established and was discharged that he was wounded at the battle of guilford court house and I do solemnly swear that I was a resident Citizen of the United States on the 18 day of March 1818 and th that I have not since that time by gift sale or in any manner disposed of my property or any part thereof with intent thereby so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress entitled “an act to provide for certain person engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War” passed on the 18th day of March 1818 and that I have not nor has any person in trust for me any property or securities contracts or debts due to me nor have I any income other than what is contained in the Schedule hereto annexed and by me subscribed which is as follows

    Lexington Virginia 20th September 1807
    At the request of James Bridget I have examined the scars and disease of his leg; which he says was broken by a ball at the Battle of Guilford – It is very evident that the leg has been much impaired & the Bone broken – and from the appearance which it now has I do suppose that it must be very much disabled – and that it probably will become more & more diseased – Certified by S. L. Campbell
    I do Certify that Samuel L Campbell is Surgeon of the reigement in rockbridge county

    This day James Bridget Personally appeared before me a justice of the Piece and made oath that he served three years a regular soldier at the commencement of the Revolutionary War with Great Britton after which he enlisted under Colonel Blewford & Capt Thomas Bowyer and served threwout the remainder of the War during this last service he received a wound in his right leg at the Battle of Gilford Sworn to before me the day above written John McCleland
    This day John L Sweet made Oath before me Charles Campbell a Justice of the peace for Rockbrige County That he knew James Bridget to be a regular soldier and saw him that morning that the Battle was fought at Gilford the next morning he heard that James Bridget was wounded in the leg
