Jacob Tayek Funeral Held Funeral services for Jacob J. Tayek, 73, were held Monday morning, Aug. 8, at 9:30 o'clock at St. Patrick's church in Monona with Rev. William J. Menster officiating at the requiem high mass. Burial was in St. Patrick's cemetery. Mr. Tayek died at his home in St. Paul, Minn., Friday, Aug. 5, after an illness of more than a year. He was born a son of Anton and Anna Tayek at Watson, Giard township, May 22, 1887. He received his education in the rural schools of the county. After farming for several years, he moved to Froelich, where for 18 years he conducted a mercantile business and was postmaster of the office located in his store. In 1931, he moved to Monona, where he was proprietor of a clothing store for several years. He was married to Harriet O. Collins April 25, 1938. The couple made their home in Monona until 1941, when they moved to Elkader, where Mr. Tayek was superintendent of the Clayton County Mental hospital for six years. In 1946, he returned to Monona, where he was acting postmaster for a time. In 1950, the couple moved to St. Paul, Minn., which was Mr. Tayek's home until his death. He was county Democrat chairman for several years and was a member of the Monona Commercial Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marjorie Burlingame Tayek; his wife, Maude Todd Tayek; two sisters, Mary Tayek, Mrs. William (Elizabeth) Kozelka; four brothers, Michael, Anton, John and Ben Tayek. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Reuben and Robert; three brothers, Joseph, Fred and Frank Tayek of Monona; five stepchildren and nine grandchildren. Music for the services was provided by the children's choir of St. Patrick's school. The organist was Elaine Swestka. Altar boys were Micky Geraghty and Gene Henderson. Also present in the sanctuary were Jackie and Douglas Imig, grandsons of the deceased. Pallbearers were Donald Tayek, Edwin Tayek, Ed Kozelka, Ed Burlingame, George Pederson, Dan O'Leary, John O'Leary and Ray Mullen. By proclamation of the Mayor, Verne Hupfer, all business places were closed during the time of the services. Many relatives and friends from out of town attended the services. Image Gallery
