Mrs. J.J. Tayek

Maud Elizabeth Connell, second child of Mr. and Mrs. M.D. Connell, was born at Van Horne, Iowa, July 23, 1885. She came to Marquette as a child, and was educated in the Marquette public schools. On April 22, 1912, she was united in marriage to Harry L. Todd of Mason City. To this union were born two children, John L. and Harriet M.

After the death of Mr. Todd Aug. 7, 1919, she was employed at Madison for several years, resigning to take the position of bookkeeper for Kramer & Cords Drug Co at McGregor, which position she held for seven years.

On Nov. 14, 1928, she married J.J. Tayek at Monona, Iowa. They made their home at Froelich for four years where Mr. Tayek was partner in the Burlingame & Tayek general store. Four years ago they moved to Monona where she has since made her home.

Mrs. Tayek was a member of the Catholic Church, a member of the Rosary Society and the N.C.C.W. study club, and was always active in church affairs. A woman with a wonderful personality, an intelligent mind, she helped many into the appreciation of the finer things of life and opened up pathways of pleasure and service for which she will long be remembered by her many friends and neighbors who had the privilege of knowing and enjoying her friendship.

She passed away Jan. 13, 1937, at 5:30 a.m. after a short illness of five days.
