Hezekiah Hines was born on 10 April 1866 in Palmyra, Wisconsin to William Hines and Mary Ann (Brockway) Hines. At about 12 years of age, he moved with his family to Lake County near Winfred, where he spent his entire life with the exception of 10 years at Wessington Springs where he farmed from 1917 to 1927, when he returned to Winfred and practiced his profession as a veterinary. On 5 October 1889 he married Lucy Ann Smith of Illinois. They had several children including: Elmer C., Margaret, Myrtle, Ada Belle, Ada Alice, Alonzo Coon, Hazel, Truman, Walter, Elnora, Mary Elizabeth, Violet Mary, Henry and Lily Hines. Lucy died in 1930. Hezekiah Hines died on 12 December 1935 at his home in Winfred by his own hands, although it was rumored that he had but a short time left due to his severe diabetes.
