    Gerald Assink, age 77, left his home in Lynden and went home to be with his Lord on Friday, July 8.
    Visitation hours will be from 1 to 9 p.m. on Monday, July 11, at Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden.
    Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 12, at 10:15 a.m. in Monumenta Cemetery followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the First Reformed Church, 6th & Grover Streets in Lynden.
    He was born in Lynden on May 6, 1928 to Gerrit and Marie (DeHoog) Assink where he grew up and attended Northwood and Lynden schools and dairy farmed for forty-one years.
    He was also a well-loved bus driver for the Lynden School District for thirty-five years. Gerald was an avid sports fan and loved driving the bus for various teams to their sporting events. He retired in 1998. Mr. Assink was a lifetime member of the First Reformed Church where he also served as a Deacon.
    Gerald was married do Dorothy Kuiken on September 23, 1949 and is survived by her and their four children, Doug Assink of Seattle, Duane Assink of Maple Falls, Debra Coleman and husband Harold of Albany, Oregon and Dennis Assink and wife Irene of Lynden; four grandchildren, Ryan Hubby, Chris Hubby (wife Tosha) Todd Assink and Katie Assink; two great-grandchildren; brother Floyd Assink and wife Margaret of Lynden, sisters-in-law Jean Assink of Lynden and Marge Assink of Yakima and numerous other relatives.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Harry, Bert, Ben, Marion and Rueben Assink.
