    Mr. Benjamin G. Assink of Lynden died at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Thursday, August 29. He was 86.
    Ben was the son of Gerrit and Marie (DeHoog) Assink and was born in Lynden on December 4, 1915. A life-time Lynden area resident, Ben graduated from Lynden High School in 1933. He was married to Adelaide Deelsnyder in 1940 and following her death in 1963 was married to Jean Mullenix on August 21, 1965.
    Mr. Assink operated a dairy farm on the corner of Depot and Visser Roads for many years and was a charter member of the Faith Reformed Church in Lynden. He served as an Elder and for a few years was also the church janitor. He was a member of the Washington State Farm-Forestry Assn. and enjoyed cutting wood and bowling.
    Besides his parents and first wife, Ben was preceded by brothers Harry and Bert Assink and brother Marion Ausink and step-daughter Beverly Welch.
    He is survived at home by his wife Jean; sons Willard Assink of Longview, WA., James Assink and wife Gail of Marion, Kansas and Donald Assink and wife Carol of Lynden; daughter Charlotte Huitink and husband Rev. Roger of Rockford, Illinois; step-sons Gordon Mullenix and wife Carolyn of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Mike Mullenix of Everson; twenty-two grand and twenty great-grandchildren; brothers Gerald Assink and wife Dorothy and Floyd Assink and wife Margaret all of Lynden and Reuben Assink and wife Marge of Yakima; step-son-in-law George Welch of Bellingham and numerous other relatives.
