Francis Newborn was baptised on 24th February 1748/9 at Barnack in Northamptonshire, son of Francis and Jane Newborn, who lived in the hamlet of Southorpe to the south of Barnack parish. When he was 29 he married an Elizabeth Robinson. They do not appear to have had any children baptised at Barnack. Elizabeth died in 1788, leaving Francis a widower of 39. Four years later, Francis married again, to an Elizabeth Cunnington. They had four children together between and 1809, although their eldest son, Amos, died aged 8 in 1801. Their youngest son was named Amos after him.

Francis died in 1809, less than six months after his youngest child's baptism. He was 60.
