Francis Kelly (known as Frank) was born on 2nd April 1881 in Birkenhead. He born the day before the 1881 census was taken, but does not appear with the family on their census return - perhaps they'd already completed their return and neglected to add their newborn. Frank was the ninth (but eighth surviving) child of a dock labourer and ships' boiler maker named Dennis Kelly and his wife Catherine Ralston. He grew up in Birkenhead and worked as a general labourer.
Frank did not marry until he was 37, and the marriage was tragically short. His wife, Annie Kennedy, died a few days after giving birth to their only child. They had been married less than two years. Frank was left with the baby son to look after.
At the outbreak of the Second World War, Frank was living with his sister Christina and her husband at 26 Sandford Street. Frank was working as an engineer's labourer at this time.
Frank lived to be 69 years old, and died on 18th May 1950.
