Christina Kelly was born on 16th October 1871 at Birkenhead in Cheshire, daughter of Catherine Kelly, formerly Ralston, and her husband Dennis Kelly, a boilermaker. Christina was the fifth (but fourth surviving) of the family's eleven children.

Three days after her nineteenth birthday, Christina married William Smith, a butcher from Barrow-in-Furness. They married in Liverpool, but then returned across the Mersey to Birkenhead, where they had four children together. William died aged just 31 in 1902.

On 1st August 1904, Christina remarried. Her second husband was George Steadman, a labourer originally from Hanmer on the Flintshire / Shropshire border. They went on to have another five children together. Christina's father died in November 1904, after which her mother appears to have lived with Christina. By the time of the 1911 census they were living at 26 Sandford Street, where they would live for the rest of their lives. Christina was working as a domestic servant at this time. Christina's mother died at 26 Sandford Street in 1933.

At the outbreak of the Second World War they had Christina's widowed brother Frank living with them, along with two apparently unrelated young men, possible lodgers.

George Steadman died in 1946, aged 78. Christina outlived him by four years and died in 1950, also aged 78.
