Elizabeth Cain was baptised on 10th May 1818 at St Paul's Walden in Hertfordshire. She was the daughter of Mary Cain formerly Parsons and her husband Henry Cain, a tanner. She was the fourth of seven children, although the eldest had died as a baby. In 1827, Elizabeth's mother Mary died, when Elizabeth was only nine. Elizabeth outlived her mother by less than a year, being buried on 19th June 1828, aged just ten years old.
