Oral Traditions

It is stated in Elizabeth's obituary that she moved with her family to Missouri at the close of the Civil War. There was a period of residency in Cass County, Missouri, and then the family moved to Kansas in 1871. They settled in the Hillsdale, Miami County area.

Elizabeth Jane Bastin was born November 29, 1841, in Hart County Kentucky, and passed away June 26, 1932 at her brother-in-law's home at Rexford at the age of 90 years. She moved with her family to Missouri at the close of the Civil War. With her family she later moved to Miami County, Kansas. She was married to Benjamin Carter, June 7, 1881, who passed away a year later.

She was a member of the Baptist Church of Gem, Kansas. She accepted Christ as her Saviour at an early age and lived as a consistent Christian all her life. She has always lived in a Christian home. She has been a pioneer in three states, and always took Christ with her. Aunt Lizzie, as she was familiarly known was the friend to all who knew her. It can be truly said of her that she was a friend of God.

Services were conducted at Rexford by Rev. Goodwin, Tuesday, June 28. Internment was made in Rexford Cemetary.

Burial

Elizabeth is buried at Rexford Cemetery, Rexford, Kansas.
