Elisha Ford served in the War of 1812 as a private in Captain James Hurry's Company, 6th Virginia Volunteer Infantry commanded by Henry E. Coleman. He was drafted into the service at Morgantown, Monongalia County, Virginia on 09 May 1814 and was discharged on 28 August 1814 at Norfolk, Virginia. He was granted a pension and a bounty land warrant for his services. After his death in 1865, his wife claimed his pension and was granted his pension in 1871 while living in Pruntytown, West Virginia

Elisha Ford's nuncupative will is recorded in Will Book 1, page 31 in the Gilmer County Clerk's office, Glenville, West Virginia. It is dated 08 Aug 1865 and was given in open court by Lewis L. Skinner. In it, Elisha Ford wills one dollar to his son Joseph Shepherd Ford and the rest of his estate to his widow, Elender Ford, so long as she remains his widow. Upon her ceasing to be his widow, whatever was left of the estate was to be divided amongst the rest of his heirs.

He owned land in the area of Cedar Creek and Spruce Creek in Gilmer County, West Virginia that he sold prior to his death, some to his son, Alpheus Ford and some to Washington Rhoades who had married his daughter, Rebecca Ford. This area is approximately three miles South of Glenville, West Virginia. The burial place of Elisha Ford and his wife is unknown.
