From John Waddington's "Who's Who" 1579 Ped 48 p. 33

Edward Waddington of Grindleton, nr Waddington, b. 1542, d. 1610, md. Jane Parker, daughter of Giles Parker of Horrocksford at Clitheroe. Son and heir of Thomas Waddington 1540 of Grindleton, who left him the estate at Grindleton. Had issue 3 sons; 1- John Waddington., bd 1600 at Waddington; 2- Thomas Waddington admr. to Grey's Inn, London, 23 Aug. 1605, md. 1610, ob. s.p.; 3- Edward Waddington, bd 1616 at Waddington, ob. s.p. md. 1613 4- Isabella Waddington who was left sole heir and inherited the Grindleton Estate. Tuition1610 to Giles Parker, who had grant of Admin. 1617 of her brothers Thomas and Edward, both of whom died without issue. Isabella was named in the will of her incle Thomas Waddington 1583. She married 1616 John Holden of Chaigley and the Grindleton Estate passed to the Holdens. Descended from Richard de Wadyngton 1388 of Coley, Halifax.

Hilary I Mary (1553) Wadington v. Stanworth. "Complaint by Edward Wadington that he was seised in his demesne, as of fee, by good and sufficient conveyance, of a messuage 5 1/2 acres of land in West Bradford, held as copyhold of the Queen's Manor of Sladeburne, co. Yorks. About 13th January last John Stanworth, of West Bradford, by virtue of certain court rolls and other evidences having come into his hands come with divers persons and vilently entered the said premises and still keeps possession to Complainant's great damage, as he is a poor man and not dwelling in said Manor Sladeburne and the said John is a great rich man and dwells there. Therefore he desires John may be summoned to answer the premises."

Inhabitants of Grindleton v. Pudsey. "Complaint by John Brograve, Esq., Attorny General, on behalf of Edward Waddington and others, the Queen's tenants of Gryndleton, co. Yorks, that parcel of the Manor of Sladeburn and lying in the town of Grindleton and wastes belonging to Holden and Bolton adjoin the same, by reason whereof cattle belonging to the said latter towns get into the ground called Smalden, the herbage where-of belongs solely to the inhabitants of Grindleton, but now William Pudsey, Esq., and other inhabitants of Holden and Bolton have inclosed their own grounds and still use Smalden ground to the great injury to the inhabitants of Grindleton."

Tenants of Grindleton. "Complaint by Edward Waddington, Robert Parker, John Swinglehurst, Thomas Chapman, Thomas Ellis and Robert Wood for themselves and others, the Queen's free and copyholders of Grindleton in the Manor of Sladbourne, co. Yorks, vs. Sir Ralph Sadler, knt. Chancellor of the Duchy, parcel of the Duchy of Lancaster, that whereas the said town of Gryndleton has of late greatly increased in buildings and dwellings (houses) and thereby become more populated than heretofore, the ancient grounds, used for pasture medow and tillage,are not sufficient to maintain the inhabitants, whereby much poverty increases. As the Queen has waster ground or coomon there for which no rent is paid but has always been depastured in common by the freeholders and the copyholders, they beg the same may be inclosed and apportioned amongst the free and copyholders, they paying rent as they do for thier ancient customary lands, the poor cottages to have 20 acres. "A Commissioner appointed to view the same etc.."

(Yorkshire Fines, Vol. 8, p. 202): Fine levied in Michaelmas Term 44 & 45 Elizabeth (1602) between William Hartley plaintiff and Richard Tempest Esq. and Edward Waddington and Jane his wife of lands in Waddington.

(Duchy of Lancaster, Depositions 3 James 1 (1606) No. 51): William Bucktrpwte, Elizabeth his wife and Richard Lurne v. Edward Waddington gnet. re lands etc. in West Bradford. Depositions of Robert Parkinson of Baltris in Bolland, co. Yorks. Yeaoman aged 53. To the interrogatory he says a writing shown him perposting to be a surrender from John Scagilthorp of Screve, co. York to the use of Thomas Waddington dated 8 Oct. 13 Eliz., is a true copy of the Court Roll of the Manor of Slaidburne. To the 7th he says he has heard that Thomas Waddington father of the said Edward Waddington died seised of the lands in cariance.
