Durgee, R.N., 1615 Sunset AV Utica, a retired state public health nurse died Monday at Faxton Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Camden Jan 12, 1895, daughter of the late James H. and Barbara Snyder Durgee. She attended Camden schools and graduated from Utica State Hospital, with post-graduate work at Fordham Hospital and the University of Michigan. Her professional career began during the influenza epidemic of 1918, when... she was assigned to Syracuse, later going to Wayne County, where for the next seven years she served as a tuberculosis public health nurse ... When Homer Folks Hospital was opened in 1935, Miss Durgee went to Oneonta as a consultant public health nurse... She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Utica, the Women's Federation of this church and also of Circle 3. Miss Durgee belonged to Camden OES chapter. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Fiske (Jane) Wilkinson, Utica, and Mrs. Earl (Clara) Willis, Bernhard's Bay, and two brothers, John S. Durgee, Utica and J. Edmund Durgee, Camden. Rome Daily Sentinel, 25 June 1968: MISS DURGEE DIES, NATIVE OF CAMDEN Camden-- Miss Christine R. Durgee of 1615 Sunset AV, Utica, died today at Faxton Hospital. She was born in Camden Jan. 12, 1895, daughter of James H. and Barbara Snyder Durgee. Her mother died about six weeks ago at the age of 100. Miss Durgee attended Camden schools and was a graduate of Marcy State Hospital School of Nursing and took graduate work at Fordham Hospital, New York City, and the University of Michigan. During the 1918 influenza epidemic she joined the N.Y. State Department of Health and was assigned to Syracuse. Later for seven years she was assigned to Wayne County, working with the board of supervisors and Red Cross chapter. She later worked in clinics throughout the state and the Homer Folts Hospital, Oneonta. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Utica, Women's Federation of the church, and Circle Three. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Fiske (Jane) Wilkinson, Utica, and Mrs. Earl (Clara) Willis, Bernhards Bay; two brothers, John S., Utica, and J. Edmund, Camden.
