DURGEE South Utica-- John S. Durgee, 79, of 1928 Baker AV, Tuesday April 14, 1981 at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital Center, after a several week's illness. Mr. Durgee was born November 18, 1901 in Camden, son of the late James H. and Barbara Snyder Durgee, and received his education in Camden Schools. Mr. Durgee came to the Utica area in 1921 and was married to Amelia Detlefsen in 1929 in Utica. John was a salesman with the Durr Packing Company for 45 years, retiring several years ago. He was a member of the Hillsborough Baptist Church in Hillsborough and on April 5, 1981 reaffirmed his faith by formally joining the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Utica. Mr. Durgee was a member of Philanthropic Lodge #164, F&AM of Camden, Oneida Chapter #57 Utica Commandery, #3 Knight Templars, Ziyara Temple, the Reception Caravan, Shrine Club of Greater Utica. He was a past Counselor of U.C.T. and was a member of the Izaak Walton League. John is survived by his wife, Amelia (Millie) of Utica; two sons, John M. Durgee of Mahwah NJ, Roger B. Durgee of Larchmont NY; one sister, Mrs. Jane Wilkinson of Clinton; one brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. Edmund Durgee of Camden; five grandchildren... Funeral services will be conducted Saturday... from the Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. James V. Davison officiating... Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery... Members of Camden Lodge F&AM will conduct ritualistic services at the Memorial Home Friday evening... References
