Information from “Virginia/West Virginia Genealogical Data from Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Records”, Vol. 5, compiled by Patrick G. Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. :
- Steuart, Charles - born 1761 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; entered service 1780 in Monongalia County, Virginia, where resided, in Virginia company & served as a spy against Indians; commissioned lieutenant there in 1782; applied for pension Jackson County, Virginia in 1834; John E. Wine & Gerhart Cain made affidavit there then per County Clerk of Court Benjamin Wright & Pension Application Rejected; soldier's wife mentioned but not named living in 1835. F-R10148, R2282.

- Charles Stuart married his cousin, Jane Elizabeth Stewart, the daughter of Charles. On April 9, 1804, his parents gave Charles 400 acres of land near Camp Run on the Cheat River, along with William Stewart's home (see files). Charles Stuart took possession of this property on February 13,1809. On the same date, Charles was given four acres adjoining the schoolhouse place.
