He married Alcey Grigsby in 1769, in Culpeper, Virginia, United States. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 3 daughters. He died in March 1786, in Fauquier, Virginia, United States, at the age of 52, and was buried in The Plains, Fauquier, Virginia, United States.
