Burrell is the oldest ocumented ancestor on Don Jaynes's father's side of the family. He was probably born between 1770 & 1777 in NC. His surname has been recorded as Gean, Jean, or even as Burl Janes. He was already married and living at Spartanburg, SC by 1800. He and Nancy had several more children than the 6 identified here. He and Nancy are listed in the 1810 census for Greenville District, SC, but it's evident they moved shortly after that to Pendleton Dist. SC, which became Oconee County, Oakway community near Westminster, SC (Old Pendleton Dist.), where he traded 4 flintlock rifles for 612 acres of fertile farmland. In almost every census where Burrell is listed there is a Phillip or P. Jaynes listed who is the right age bracket to be Burrell's father. Since Burrell & Nancy named their oldest son Phillip, it's a strong possibility this Phillip was Burrell's father, but it's unproven. His only proven sibling was a brother, Sherrod Gean, who applied for a pension in 1834 stating he was born in 1761 in Butte County, NC, and naming Burrell as his beneficiary.

~B PLACE OF MARRIAGE: near Spartanburg, SC ~b see page 2 Jaynes book, and page 2 of the "A Jaynes Family" section of Clar Haines book "Visit Our Family Tree." ~B NAME: Burrell Jaynes ~b listed as beneficiary of a relative who applied for Revolutionary War Pension. (pension was rejected.) see page 2 of Jaynes book.
