Sherrod Gean was born in 1761 in Bute County, NC (this later became Franklin County, NC). He entered the military service in 1779, serving as a volunteer for his father. His last tour ended about Aug 1882. Sherrod married Rosanah Lea on20 Feb 1785. They had at least one son, who evidently died while they lived in Wilkes County, GA. There is a note in "Early Records of Georgia, Vol 2, that includes receipts from Phillip & William Geans....concerning the estate of William Lea (possibly Rosanah's father?) About 1828, Sherrod moved to Pickens District, SC, near his brother Burrell, as stated in Burrell's application for his pension after he died as his only living relative by 1853. His widow and only surviving son were dead, the son having died in 1847. Sherrod died 15 Jan 1844, and Burrell was established as his only living heir on 26 Sep 1853. (One of the witnesses to their kinship was Elizabeth League who stated in 1853 she lived near and knew them to be brothers in Pickens District, SC.
