State of Tennessee Warren County: August 18th 1818
Be it remembered that on this day personally appeared before me Parry W Humphries
one of the judges of the circuit courts of law in the State of Tennessee Anjer Price of said County and State and made oath That on the 27th day of February 1776 he enlisted as a soldier in Captain Richard Campbell's company of riflemen belonging to the 8th Regiment of the Virginia line commanded by Colonel Peter Muhlenberg. That at the time of his enlistment he lived in the County of Shenandoah in the State of Virginia and enlisted in said County. After his enlistment he entered the service of his country and about the three months thereafter as well as this affiant recollects he was in a scouting party near Norfolk Virginia under Captain Campbell and received in a skirmish which took place a wound in his thigh the impression of which he still wears. On the 4th day of October 1777 this affiant fought in the battle of Germantown and on Sunday the 28th of June following he fought in the battle of Monmouth. This affiant continued in service in the 8th Regiment from the period of his enlistment till sometime in the year 1778 when the 8th Regiment was consolidated with the 4th and afterwards was called the 4th Regiment of the Virginia line, which was placed under the command of Colonel John Green of Culpeper County Virginia. Sometime in the year 1779 at Middlebrook New Jersey this affiant being at that time a Sergeant left the 4th Regiment and was sent from that place to Petersburg Virginia with several officers among whom was Colonel Richard Parker who was appointed to take command of some new levies drafted for eighteen months. While this affiant was at Petersburg in Virginia he was appointed a wagon master in the first Regiment of new levies commanded by Colonel Parker and in that capacity marched with his Regiment to the state of Georgia. This affiant with the Regiment to which he belonged left Petersburg the 28th day of June 1779 and arrived at the town of Augusta on the 4th day of August following. From that place this affiant with the Regiment to which he belonged was marched to the siege of Savannah. After the siege was raised this affiant still being a wagon master as aforesaid was marched back with his Regiment to the town of Augusta and on the 2nd day of December 1779 he received his discharge from his Colonel Richard Parker. After the revolutionary war was over this affiant had it in contemplation to settle in the State of Georgia. And in 1783 being in the State of South Carolina he gave the custody of his papers among which was his discharge to a relation of his own named Mary Price who was going to the State of Georgia to live. The said papers were put in the cart of the said Mary and shortly afterwards she removed to the State of Georgia. This affiant intended at the time he put his papers in the possession of his said relation to go to the State of Georgia to live but sometime afterwards he changed his intention, and lived in the State of South Carolina for 2 years and then removed to the County of Russell Virginia. This affiant never saw his discharge after he gave it to his relation and believes that it is now lost.
This affiant further states that he is now a citizen of the County of Warren in the State of
Tennessee. That he has arrived at the advanced age of sixty-two and by reason of the bodily
infirmity incident to old age he is unable to support himself and his family by manual labor.
That misfortune has reduced him to poverty and he now stands in need of the assistance of his country for support.

  10. Ancestry.com. Public Member Trees: (Note: not considered a reliable primary source).

Richard Price and Edward Price are not brothers of Anjer Price. Richard Price was the brother-in-law of Anjer Price. Richard Price married Lucy Price who was the sister of Anger Price as shown in the preceeding record. A brother could not marry a sister. The record of the marriages of 1) Richard Price and Lucy Price and 2) Anger Price and Jean Price (also called Jane Price) occurred in Shenandoah County on the same day April 10, 1783. Shenandoah County Records as reported in A History of Shenandoah County by John W. Wayland, appendix page 744.

Family trees identifying Lucy Price as Lucy Estill are not correct. No daughter Lucy is named in the will of Benjamin Estill, only two sons John and Benjamin. Ruth Estill, youngest daughter of Wallace Estill, made no mention of a Lucy Price in her history of the Estill family. Also any connection to a John Sawyer Price is circumspect, particularly one married to a Unity Claiborne. No evidence in an original source supports that conclusion.

Additional Revolutionary War Service for Anjer Price: The muster roll of Captain Michael Reader (aka Radar) dated 1777 is preserved by the Virginia Historical Society in Richmond Virginia--manuscript #3D9217a11-15. His company of militia was formed in the area of Shenandoah County now known as Page County. Anjer Price is named as are these Price men believed to be closely related: Edward Price, Even Price, John Price, Meredith Price, Meredith Price Junior, Thomas Price, Zachery Price, Junior and Zachery Price, Senior. Thomas Price born 22 April 1750 is my ancestor, Edward and John are brothers of Thomas. One researcher has said Anjer had a brother named Meredith who may be Meredith Jr in this roster.
