I believe the eariest source for Andrew being from Cork Co, Ireland is from a notebook kept by Marion Wesley (Wes) Bogan.I visited with him in Indiana in May 1960.He had no proof for this place of birth, only that the Bogans were Irish.I am sure that is true. However, Andrew was likely born in Virginia in or near Frederick Co or in Pennsylvania.

His daughter, Isabella Bogan Cartmill and her husband Henry Cartmill were deposed in 1821.The deposition is now online in the pension papers of William Freehold who was living in Gallia Co, OH in 1821.He had applied for a pension based on his service in the Revoltion (S. 42730).

Henry Cartmill stated that Andrew Bogan, who was deceased had told him of William Freehold's military service. In her deposition Isabella Cartmill said she was born in 1773, at Winchester in Frederick Co, VA. She claimed to remember William Freehold during his service.William Freehold was born in 1754 or there abouts, and would have been old enough to serve even as early as 1776.I have concluded that William Freehold was some kind of relative of Isabella, perhaps an uncle, or an uncle by marriage. He did get a pension.

Do you have a copy of "John Cartmill & Stephen Hubbard, Kin" by Lloyd Orville Poland, published in Jul, 1989?This book has much good information in it, but several mistakes as well. The Will of Andrew Bogan dated in 1825 is that of Andrew Bogan, Jr who was brother of Isabella not her father.

The earliest record I have for Andrew Bogan is from 1775 when Andrew Bogan was a chain carrier in land survey for John Early in Hampshire Co, VA [now WV].Warrant was issued 21 Feb 1775, survey made 23 Sep 1775; 292 acres being the same land John Bogen got warrant for 17 Feb 1769 and did not execute, on drains of Tear Coat branch of North Gt Cacapehon River; adj to George Martin, Joseph Watson and land of James Anderson bought of Batten, cc- William Anderson and Andrew Bogan,; surveyor Elias Poston.

Is John Early related to Andrew Bogan? Was John Bogen who got warrant for the land in 1769 the father of Andrew or some other relative. If Isabella Bogan was born in 1773, her father Andrew Bogan was married before 1775 when he was a cc for surveyor Elias Poston.

I do want to share information on Andrew Bogan and all of his children.I am descended from his daughter, Lucinda, whose mother was his second wife Ann Muse (also called Nancy) who was first married to William Deacon of Richmond Co, VA.[The marriage bond of 1799 gives her name as Dickens.]
