Alexander George Whyte, son of David Whyte and Ann Rumgay, was born on 28 October 1887 at 98 Alexandra Street, Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland . He appeared on the census of 1891 in the household of his parents at 98 Alexandra Street, Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland. Alexander lived at 18 Montgomery Street, Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland. Alexander was a post office clerk in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland. Alexander was a sapper in the Royal Engineers with the British Expeditionary Force in 1918. He married Mary Jane White Melloy, daughter of John Melloy and Bridget Lynch, on 12 September 1918 at St. John Roman Catholic Church, Perth, Scotland. The marriage was witnessed by John Patterson Halley and Jessie W. Geddes. Alexander was a sorting clerk & telegraphist in 1921. Early in 1921 Alexander developed abdominal tubercular disease. In May he developed acute tuberculosis in his lungs. He died at 5:20 a.m. on August 1, 1921 at the age of 33. His family suspected that his illness was partly caused by his exposure to chemical gas during World War I. His death was reported by a friend, P. Malloy of 2 Maryhill Street, Kirkcaldy. Alexander was buried in Bennochy Cemetary, Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland. References
