Biography

Ann Rumgay, daughter of William Rumgay and Margaret Dickson, was born on 11 October 1847 in Orwell, Kinross, Scotland. Ann Rumgay was baptized on 9 January 1848 in Orwell. She appeared on the census of 1851 in the household of her father in Easter Colzie, Abernethy parish, Fife, Scotland. Ann appeared on the census of 1871 as a domestic servant at the Free Church Manse, West Fergus Place, Kirkcaldy, Fife. Ann witnessed the marriage of James Law and her neice, Mary Low, on 31 December 1873 at 6 Beaverbank Place, Cannonmills, Edinburgh, Scotland.

In 1874, Ann lived at 224 St. Vincent Street, Blythswood, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland. She married David Whyte, son of David Whyte and Janet Mackie, on 11 December 1874 at 224 St. Vincent Street. The couple was married by George W. Thomson of the Free Church of Scotland. Witnesses to the marriage were John Whyte and Jane Whyte. Between 1876 and 1879 the Whyte family lived on Mitchell Street in Kirkcaldy, where three of their children were born: David, on 7 February 1876; Margaret Jane, on 1 January 1878; and William, on 28 September 1879.

Ann and David appeared on the census of 1881 at at 10 East Fergus Place, Kirkcaldy, with their children David, Margaret and William.Another son John MacKie Whyte was born on 12 May 1882 at Fergus Place. Between 1884 and 1894, Ann and David lived at at 98 Alexandra Street, Kirkcaldy, where two more sons were born: Robert Rumgay Whyte, on 14 August 1884; Alexander George Whyte, on 28 October 1887

Ann and David appeared on the census of 1891 with their children David, Margaret, William, John, Robert and Alexander at 98 Alexandra Street.

In 1915, Ann and David Whyte lived at at 162 Dunnikier Road, Kirkcaldy. Annie fell ill with a fever around 19 October 1915. She suffered a stroke on November 10 and died at 2 a.m. on November 12 at the age of 68. Ann (Rumgay) Whyte was buried in Bennochy Cemetary in Kirkcaldy.
