Junior,

Back on May 4, 2007 I posted to the list the following research data under the subject title of "John Ramsey of Calf Pasture, Augusta County, VA." This data included the documentation and citation for John Ramsey's will. If you receive this let me know. (Lee Ramsey)

John Ramsey of the 'Calf Pasture', Augusta County, VA, and later Four Mile Creek, Mecklenburg County, NC, married in Augusta County, VA to Margaret Crockett, the widow of Robert Crockett of the 'Great Calf Pasture' and whose will was proved 19 Feb 1746, Augusta County, VA. Robert Crockett left the following sons: Archibald, Samuel, James, Alexander and Andrew Crockett, with their widow mother, Margaret, marring John Ramsey before 28 Nov 1751. On 21 May 1755, John Ramsey became the guardian of Samuel, James, Alexander, and Andrew, replacing John Gray as their guardian. Archibald Crockett's guardians had been Robert Bratton and James McCorkle.

John and Margaret Ramsey removed to Mecklenburg County, NC before 10 Oct 1774, which date they and Andrew Crockett of Mecklenburg County, NC conveyed to James Crockett of Augusta County, VA a tract on Calf pasture patented to Margaret Crockett and Andrew Crockett 5 Sept 1749. John Ramsey took up 312 acres in Mecklenburg County, NC on Four Mile Creek, and, along with Archibald Crockett, Andrew Rea and Aaron Howie, became an elder of the New Providence Presbyterian Church organized there near the forks of Four Mile Creek in 1765, about twelve miles south of 'Charlotte Town.'

John Ramsey died between 4 Aug 1775 and Jan, 1776. His will was probated during the Mecklenburg County, NC January term of court (Will R.B. F, pp. 113-115). In his will he bequeathed to his sons, James and William Ramsey, his tract of 312 acres of land and improvements; to his son, John Ramsey, the tract of 150 acres on the divided ridge of the waters McAlpine & Four Mile Creek. John Ramsey's senior son, James Ramsey, was the executor of his father's will during the Jan 1776 term of court, with James and his brother William receiving one half interest in their father's 312 acres on Four Mile Creek; and their brother John receiving the 150 acres on the dividing ridge of the waters of McAlpine and Four Mile Creek. Due to the premature death of the brother William Ramsey in 1777, William's half interest in his father's land fell to the elder brother, James Ramsey. In John Ramsey's will he also bequeathed to his son James 'the horse and mare that goes in his name & two milk cows & two calves; to son William the Wilson horse & young bay mare & two milk cows; to daughter Esther the tan mare & her saddle & two milk cows; to daughter Rachel the bay filly & a good new side saddle & two cows and calves; to son-in-law Thomas Mark the sum of five pounds prov' money to be equally divided among his five children; to daughters Esther & Rachel all his pewter to be divided equally; to his five children, James, William, Esther, Rachel & John, a good feather bed & bed clothes equivalent; the remainder of his estate after debts satisfied to son James to be equally divided between himself & the four other children; to the two oldest sons the plow & tacklings; all other tools & plantation implements to be used by the whole family while they last; his wagon to be sold & the price to go with the personal estate.

From Chalkley's Augusta County, VA records (NOTE: there were apparently TWO John Ramsey's in Augusta County, VA that have sometimes been confused with each other. Not all of these may relate to this John Ramsey:

Most other records of Robert Davis in Augusta are in connection with

the settlement of the estate of Robert Crockett. A few years after death of Robert Crockett. His widow Margaret married John Ramsey. The following records are to be found:

After Robert Davis's statement that he was about to leave the colony

in 1753, he was relieved and John Ramsey took over the duties. Futher data pertaining to the Crocketts will be taken up in connection with Margaret as a possible daughter of Robert and Anne Pickens Davis.

Mecklenburg County, N.C. records show that JOHN RAMSEY, who had married Margaret Crockett, widow of Robert, moved to Mecklenburg later, and he was one of the first Elders of Providence Presbyterian Church, also his stepson Archibald Crockett. However John Ramsey remained in Augusta until around 1763.

Augusta Co. VA. Marriage Records: A few very early ones are still extant

which give name of the groom only. They
                                 show:
1749-50 - JOHN RAMSEY (We know she was
                                 Margaret (Robert Davis?) Crockett.)
