Notes from Delijim@aol.com: Clue to George Davis and family: From William Lindsey (wlindsey@philander.edu) "The Leonardo Andrea collection's Pickens file contains a brief account of the Pickens family compiled by Loy Looper, 22295 Termino Ave., Long Beach, CA (no date cited), which says that William Pickens arrived with wife Margaret, daughter Margaret and her husband George Davis, and sons Israel and Robert, in PA in 1719. The family presented papers from their church in Ireland to Neshamminy Church just north of Philadelphia, remaining in Bucks Co., PA, for the rest of their family to arrive. Looper thinks that William and Margaret died in PA, and that their children moved to Augusta Co., VA, Frederick Co., MD, and on to SC. The Andrea file also contains a portion of an article entitled 'Gathers Pickens Family Data,' from THE GENEALOGICAL HELPER (Dec. 1950?), p. 294, which says that the Neshaminny Church was a Presbyterian church just northeast of Philadelphia, and that its records show that newcomers' certificates were filed by William Pickens and wife, George Davis and wife, and Israel Pickens, between 1719-22, likely in 1722. |
