Notes for ANNA MARIA BECKENBACH: From "Peckinpaughs, Pickenpaughs, Beckenbaughs, Peckinpahs and Peckenpaughs, Descendants of Johann Adam and Anna Maria Beckenbach", by Edwin T. & Altha Peckenpaugh Brace, Gateway Press, Baltimore, MD, 1984, pg. 11:

Mary Beckenbach, born between 1743 and 1747, may be the Anna Maria mentioned in Reformed Church records, but most of these definetely refer to her mother. We do not know her baptismal name, but the 1778 deed records name her as Mary Beckenbach, spinster. However, on the back of a deed to her, was a note, "Examined and returned to Mr. Andrew Lowe, 14th April 1779", so we may be sure she is the Mary Beckenbach who according to the marriage records of the Reformed Church of Frederick County, Maryland, married Andrew Lowe 19 July 1778. And we have her will, dated 4 Nov 1822, and probated 19 Nov. 1822, leaving her entire estate to her daughter, Catherine Houck, wife of Jacob Houck of Rockingham County, Virginia. The income was to be paid to Catherine during her life, and at her death the money was to be divided so that Cyrus Houck would get 2 parts, and each of the other grandchildren 1 part of the equal parts into which the money was to be divided. Should Cyrus not survive his mother, the other grandchildren, the children of Catherine Houck, would all receive equal shares. The executors were Jacob Houck of Rockingham County, Virginia, and George Houck of Frederick County, Maryland. Witnesses were George Rice, Charles Keller and Ezra Houck".

  • xii. MARIA CATHERINE BECKENBACH, b. Bet. 1743 - 1747, Heidelburg, Germany32; d. 19 Nov 1822, Fredericktown, Maryland; m. GEORGE BRENGLE, Bef. 1770; b. Bef. 1753; d. , possibly Kentucky33.

Information from the book "Peckinpaughs, Pickenpaughs, Beckenbaughs, Peckinpahs, and Peckenpaughs - Descendants of Johann Adam & Anna Maria Beckenbach" by Edwin T. & Atha Peckenpaugh Brace, Gateway Press, Baltimore, 1984, gives the following information on Catherine:

"Catherine, born between 1743 and 1747, may be the Maria Catharina, a Reformed Communicant in 1758. However, in the legal records that positivley identify her as the daughter of the widow, Anna Maria Beckenbach, she is named only, Catherine, the wife of George Brengle. Reformed Church records show Anna Maria Beckenbach as the sponsor for Anna Maria Brenckle, born 24 Dec 1770, the daughter of George Brenckel (Brengle) and Catharina. MD Hist. Mag., Vol 7, p. 91, may be referring to the George Brengle who married Catherine Beckenbach. This George Brengle family went to Kentucky in 1783. The only records positively referring to the George Brengle who married Catherine Beckenbach are the deed records, and the record of the birth of their daughter, Anna Maria in 1770. The 1778 deeds refer to George Brengle, weaver."

Jackson, Ann Lowe - 2709 State Street, Columbus, Indiana, (letter of October 7. 1998), "On John E.H. Lowe's marriage , he listed Andrew Lowe as being his father, and Nancy Lowe listed Maryland as the place of her father's birth, therefore claiming Andrew as her father." This is apparently because of Amy Lowes estrangement to her second husband, David Norris. The children of Amy's second husband, David Norris, later used "Lowe" as their surname, even though Andrew R. Lowe was clearly not their father, since he had died before their birth in 1838. 30. Bledsoe County, Tennessee - Circuit Court Minute Book, 1834-1841. 31. Tilman, Chuck - e-mail: ctilman@ott.net. 32.
