[edit] ▼OverviewDuring the 1680's a number of Welsh families came to Old Chester in the initial wave of William Penn's Quaker settlement. A good many came from Pembrokeshire, Wales settling in the Welsh Tract near Haverford PA. Among them were several members of the Hayes family:
Richard (12) and wife Isett (or Isell, etc) are described as being elderly when they came to Chester County. Richard died in 1697. His son John is not known to have left any male line descendants. Son Richard (13) became locally prominent, periodically serving as a Justice, and in the Assembly. He died about 1742, leaving several sons, all of whom seem to have remained in the area. |
