michael050809.ged Ready for Review [8 May 2009]

Welcome to WeRelate! WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded your GEDCOM, your next step is to preview what your pages will look like and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. When you have finished your review, your GEDCOM will be imported. Click here to review your GEDCOM.

Reviewed your gedcom [11 May 2009]

Hi,

I reviewed your GEDCOM for import; it should finish importing shortly.

Would you take a look at Person:Rachel Clark (27) once your GEDCOM is imported? I believe that her parents in your gedcom and her existing parents are really the same family. Please look at these two sets of parents and consider merging them by clicking on the More menu in the upper right corner of the page, then on Compare Parents.

Thanks!--Dallan 09:09, 11 May 2009 (EDT)

Things to do at WeRelate [26 October 2009]

Hi, MHelmantoler.

I'm responding to your message on my talk page.

First off, I'm not related to the Clarks. I was probably doing some de-duping. I'm a volunteer here and one of my projects is helping WeRelate achieve its goal of a single page per person. With people contributing GEDCOMs, it's inevitable that there be some duplication. So a team of us work on merging dupes. You can help with this by de-duping your own GEDCOM-- i.e., checking to see if any of the pages you contributed match any other pages already on WeRelate. To do this, log in to WeRelate (if you're not already logged in), then select "Show Duplicates" from the "My Relate" menu. See if you can find any records to merge. Since you're more familiar with your records, it's best if you do your own merging. A number of us-- myself included-- are here to help if you run into any challenges.

As for other things you can do, yes, you can clean up and augment your own pages. Is there a particular branch of your family that you're most interested in? Is there some aspect of your ancestors' history that you're interested in? Here are some projects that I work on as part of my personal work here:

  1. Flesh out any brick walls you have. Here's one of mine: Richard Taylor of Sudbury
  2. From your work, you may know that there are three men by the same name in the same region at the same time, and you can contribute your analysis of the situation. Here's one of mine added to the top of a surname category page: Early Carters in Massachusetts.
  3. Have you become familiar with a particular location related to your ancestors? This could include genealogically-relevant history-- or perhaps what you know about your experience doing research on people from that town. Check out an example of one I did: Place:Schwenningen, Württemberg, Germany
  4. Have you transcribed any records that you would like to share with others? This might be really helpful, especially if one of your ancestors is a "gateway ancestor" for a lot of descendants. (For example, my husband is descended of early Massachusetts colonists; others here have early Virginia settlers as ancestors.) I've transcribed a few things that I believe will be helpful to others, including: User:Jillaine/Transcriptions

These are just a few ideas. Feel free to ask for feedback on any of your own ideas.

Multiple parents conflicts [11 October 2011]

I am an admin working on the problem list of people with more than one set of parents. I need you to help untangle this family as there isn't enough information for me to determine what is correct. If you are unsure of parents, please do not link multiple parent families. Instead it is best to include a discussion of your theories in the text box and you can use links to the candidate families if you like. If you need help with the links, leave a message here - I will be watching. Thanks. --Judy (jlanoux) 11:22, 11 October 2011 (EDT)
