Next step: Review your GEDCOM [1 November 2010]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded DMT.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

OMB.ged Imported Successfully [1 November 2010]

The pages from your GEDCOM have been generated successfully. You may now:

DennisMT.ged appears to overlap a previously-imported GEDCOM [1 November 2010]

The pages from this GEDCOM have not yet been generated because they appear to match pages from a GEDCOM you have previously imported to WeRelate.

If you have already imported a GEDCOM containing people in this GEDCOM and you want to replace that tree with this GEDCOM, you need to delete that tree first so duplicates aren't created when you import this GEDCOM. Click on Trees in the "My Relate" menu, then click on the "delete" link next to that tree. Please be aware that any pages in the tree that are being watched by others won't get deleted. Once that tree is deleted you can create a new tree and re-upload this GEDCOM into it. (We're planning to make re-uploading GEDCOM files much simpler soon.)

If you don't think you have already imported a GEDCOM containing people in this GEDCOM, or if the two GEDCOM's don't overlap that much, leave a message for Dallan or send an email to dallan@WeRelate.org and we'll go ahead with the import.

You must review your gedcom before we import [23 November 2010]

Hello, I noticed that your file is still in queue. You do have some mandatory items which must be handled before we can import your file. There is one clear error on the warning tab which indicates that the youngest child does not belong to this family. You also have several families on the Family Match tab which must be compared to existing families on WeRelate to determine if they are the same people are not. Since each line of the Person, Family and Source tabs create a web page, you should review than all carefully. Also, the system tries to match Places to save you work and so you should check these to make sure no mistakes were made. Whenever you are done, don't forget to go to the Import tab and click Ready. If you have any questions, please leave a message here as I will be watching. --Judy (jlanoux) 11:15, 5 November 2010 (EDT) (WeRelate volunteer)

Hello again, We have installed a new release of gedcom review and must take care of files that were uploaded pre-release. In the case of your file, I am going to remove the file because it appears you hadn't started to work on it. As noted above, you have two warnings which must be taken care of. John Herchal POLLEY, Jr b. 18 MAY 1673 clearly cannot belong to Susannah Bacon's family. Also, you have Samuel and Alice Polley born April and November of the same year. We encourage you to fix these issues in your personal database and create a new gedcom for upload. You may repeat this process as many times as necessary to get a clean load. Anytime you want, the existing gedcom can be removed from queue using the button on the overview tab. If you have any questions, please leave a message here. I am watching. --Judy (jlanoux) 13:36, 23 November 2010 (EST) (WeRelate volunteer)
