This record is for the publication of marriage banns for this couple. This marriage is believed to have been performed by the Rev. John Stanger of Mt Zion Lutheran Church, on Cripple Creek south of Wytheville. The Ancestry record used here does not include this information, and additional source information is needed. That can probably be obtained from Dodd (nd). That work, however, is difficult to locat. A check for it on WorldCat gave no hits for this title and author, and its possible that it exists only as a database online in Ancestry. However, references to this marriage in my files predating the Ancestry behemoth indicate that more information is available, and that the work may have an existence beyond Ancestry.

In 1998 I posted the following on the WIllis familly Genealogy forum:

"Wythe Co marriage Register 1790-1853, Bk 1:29---"On 17th March 1803 Abner Willis and Eve Sifert by virtue of publication."

Dodd et al probably used these marriage records as their source, and that's what needs to be recovered. Q 08:54, 12 January 2013 (EST)
