Township of Spring Hill

Spring Hill is a civil township situated in the south-central part of the county of Johnson, state of Kansas, United States of America. It was bounded on the north by the township of Olathe, on the east by the township of Aubry, on the south by the county of Miami (including the townships of Ten Mile and Marysville), and on the west by the township of Gardner. Portions of its territory have been annexed into the incorporated cities of Spring Hill and Olathe.

History

Spring Hill was one of the eight original civil townships erected at a meeting of the county commissioners on 28 October 1857 after the county was erected in 1855. It was named after a suburban town near Mobile, Alabama. The new civil township encompassed parts of townships 14 and 15 south, of ranges 23 and 24 east of the Sixth Principal Meridian.

The first settler in the township was James B. Hovey who was a founder of the city of Spring Hill.
