This Ordnance Survey map of 1900 from A Vision of Britain through Time locates all the original rural districts established in Wiltshire in 1894. In 1934 there were a number of mergers of neighbouring districts.

Salisbury Rural District was located in the southeastern corner of the county on the border with Hampshire on both the east and south. To the west was Wilton Rural District, and to the north was Amesbury Rural District. Salisbury Rural District existed from 1894 until 1934 when it became part of the Salisbury and Wilton District.
