This Ordnance Survey map of 1900 from A Vision of Britain through Time locates all the original rural districts established in Wiltshire in 1894. In 1934 there were a number of mergers of neighbouring districts.

Cricklade and Wootton Bassett Rural District was on the northern edge of Wiltshire with Gloucestershire across the county border. To the south was the rural district of Calne, to the west that of Malmesbury, and to the east those of Highworth and Marlborough. Cricklade and Wootton Bassett Rural District existed from 1894 until 1974 when it became part of the North Wiltshire District.
