NOTE: Until 1930 there were two places named Ashley on the western side of Wiltshire, England. One was Ashley, a moderately sized village in the parish of Box which has been redirected here.

There was also an ancient parish named Ashley in the Malmesbury Hundred and, from 1894 until 1930, a civil parish in the portion of Tetbury Rural District which was in Wiltshire. In 1930 the county border was moved eastward allowing Ashley parish to join the rest of the Tetbury Rural District in Gloucestershire.

Box is a large village and civil parish in Wiltshire, England, about 3 miles (5 km) west of Corsham and 5 miles (8 km) northeast of Bath in Somerset. Besides the village of Box, the parish includes the villages of Ashley and Box Hill; Hazelbury manor; and the hamlets of Alcombe, Blue Vein, Chapel Plaister, Ditteridge, Henley (Box parish), Kingsdown (Box parish), Middlehill and Wadswick. To the east the parish includes much of Rudloe (redirected to Corsham), formerly a hamlet but now a housing estate, and the defence establishments and related businesses on the site of RAF Rudloe Manor. The civil parish had a population of 3,525 in the UK census of 2011.

Occupation here dates back at least to Roman times. The area is known for its fine stone and for centuries Box quarries were famous for their product. Today Box is perhaps better known for its Brunel-designed Box railway tunnel.
