Reference: Eleanor Marvin providing in an essay that: "William E. Mingu s, son of Moses and Elizabeth Mingus, was born in 1796, in Salt Creek Twp ., Muskingum Co., Ohio. William was drafted into the Militia on 2-12-18 13 into a battalion commanded by Captain McCune and Major Anthony Pitze r. The very same Captain McCune who is mentioned in Howe's History of Ohi o. During his [William E.'s] service he and Captain McCune were at Fort Ha rrison when it underwent the British Siege. Tecumseh and 2000 Indians, wi th the British troops, attacked the Fort. William was just 17 years o ld at the time. He was honorably discharged August 25, 1813 at Camp Senac a. William married Hannah Lewis in Muskingum County, Ohio 3-10-1814. His b rother Luther was present at the wedding and it was performed by John Wile y, a Minister of the Gospel. He [William] was 18 years of age. The Cens us of 1820 shows William and his family living in Salt Creek Township, Mus kingum County, Ohio. Luther, his brother, was living near by but his broth er Gideon was living in Bloom Township in Morgan County. The 1830 Census s hows the family living in the same place and had the following: Calvin, Gi deon, Hiram, Mary, Margaret, Rachel, Harriet and Elizabeth, along with Wil liam and Hannah. William died 3-8-1836 in Marion Township, Morgan Count y, Ohio. Present at his death was Daniel Frazier, a friend he had known si nce 1807. Daniel shaved and dressed William and prepared him for buria l. He then helped bury him in the Union Cemetery in Marion Township, Morg an County, Ohio. William was just 40 years old [when he died]. March 21, 1 853 Hannah [Lewis] Mingus applied for bounty land due her as a widow of Wi lliam Mingus, by Act of Congress passed Sept. 28, 1850. Giving sworn state ments on her behalf were Danial Frazier and Luther Mingus. She receiv ed 80 acres of bounty land. On April 17, 1855 she applied for her minor so n, William A. At this time she signed her [name] as Mrs. Hannah Fearnle y, so she had [apparently] remarried. Giving sworn statements at this ti me were Calvin Mingus and Alexander Lewis, M.D. She [Hannah Lewis Mingus F earnley] was 61 years old at this time. Hannah Mingus married for the seco nd time, 7-21-1853 Peter Fearnley. Hannah died 4-12-1868 and is buri ed in the Mound Cemetery, Marietta, Ohio. On one side lies Hannah, in t he middle Peter Fearnley and on the other side his first wife, Margaret... In the cemetery records her [Hannah's] cause of death is listed as asth ma and old age.
