The following information was obtained from an essay written by Eleanor Ma rvin: "William E. Mingus, son of Moses and Elizabeth Mingus, was bo rn in 1796, in Salt Creek Township, Muskingum Co., Ohio. William was draf ted into the Militia on 2-12-1813 into a battalion commanded by Captain Mc Cune and Major Anthony Pitzer. The very same Captain McCune who is mentio ned in Howe's History of Ohio. During his [William E.'s] service he and C aptain McCune were at Fort Harrison when it underwent the British Seig e. Tecumseh and 2000 Indians, with the British troops, attacked the For t. William was just 17 years old at the time. He was honorably discharg ed August 25, 1813 at Camp Senaca. William married Hannah Lewis in Muskin gum County, Ohio 4-10-1814. His brother Luther was present at the weddi ng and it was performed by John Wiley, a Minister of the Gospel. He [Will iam] was 18 years of age. The Census of 1820 shows William and his fami ly living in Salt Creek Township, Muskingum County, Ohio. Luther, his bro ther, was living near by but his brother Gideon was living in Bloom Townsh ip in Morgan County. The 1830 Census shows the family living in the sa me place and had the following: Calvin, Gideon, Hiram, Mary, Margaret, Ra chel, Harriet and Elizabeth, along with William and Hannah. William di ed 3-8-1836 in Marion Township, Morgan County, Ohio. Present at his dea th was Daniel Frazier, a friend he had known since 1807. Daniel shaved a nd dressed William and prepared him for burial. He then helped bury h im in the Union Cemetery in Marion Township, Morgan County, Ohio. Willi am was just 40 years old [when he died]. March 21, 1853 Hannah [Lewis] Mi ngus applied for bounty land due her as a widow of William Mingus, by A ct of Congress passed Sept. 28, 1850. Giving sworn statements on her beha lf were Danial Frazier and Luther Mingus. She received 80 acres of boun ty land. On April 17, 1855 she applied for her minor son, Willi am A. At this time she signed her [name] as Mrs. Hannah Fearnley, so s he had [apparently] remarried. Giving sworn statements at this time we re Calvin Mingus and Alexander Lewis, M.D. She [Hannah Lewis Mingus Fearn ley] was 61 years old at this time. Hannah Mingus married for the seco nd time, 7-21-1853 Peter Fearnley. Hannah died 4-12-1868 and is buri ed in the Mound Cemetery, Marietta, Ohio. On one side lies Hannah, in t he middle Peter Fearnley and on the other side his first wife, Margaret... In the cemetery records her [Hannah's] cause of death is listed as asth ma and old age. She was 71 years old [when she died]."
