William McKenzie was born on 3rd March 1839 at Marylebone in Middlesex, a north-western suburb of London. He was the son of Mary McKenzie, formerly Gobby, and her husband Alexander McKenzie, a Scottish tailor. William was baptised at All Souls' Church in Marylebone when 13 days old. He has yet to be traced after his baptism.
