Obit from Kingman Daily Miner, 24 Jan 1999 [TH-IL 56]. “William Edward Mangelsdorf, D.D.S., son of Edward W. and Edna M. Mangelsdorf, was born on October 7, 1931 in Rock Island, IL. He had one sister, Barbara J. Mangelsdorf. His parents and sister lived out their lives and died in Rock Island, IL. Dr. Bill, as he was known to his dental patients, also had his education in Rock Island, attending Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School, Washington Jr. High and Rock Island High Schools as well as Augustana College. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Loyola School of Dentistry in Chicago, IL. in 1957. This was followed by a 9-month internship in Children’s Dentistry at Eastman Dental Dispensary in Rochester, NY. Next came service as a dentist with a rank of Captain in the U.S. Air Force Base here in Arizona. After this, he returned to Rock Island to set up private dental practice till his love for Arizona, the desert, and the sunshine drew him back. In 1970 he settled in Kingman to raise his family and to practice dentistry. His family includes his wife, Rita, whom he met in Chicago while at dental school and married in July 1957. He has 3 sons: Dr. David J. Mangelsdorf of Dallas, Texas, daughter-in-law, Karen, and granddaughter, Alyssa; Peter E. Mangelsdorf of Tucson, AZ, daughter-in-law, Lisa and grandsons, Derek and David; Dr. Timothy W. Mangelsdorf. D.D.S., of Kingman, daughter-in-law, LInda and grandsons, Jesse and Luke. He has one daughter, Rebecca Tim, carries on with the dental practice. Dr. Bill actively actively participated and held offices of leadership in Kiwanis. He was a lifetime member of the Kingman Racquetball and Fitness Club, where he did aerobics,worked out and played racquetball. He loved to golf and bowl. Dr. Bill was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church since in conception in the 1980’s. Though he has held various officed in the congregation, at present he was again serving as an elder. Dr. Bill and Rita were visiting son, David and his family in Dallas when he came into contact with a deadly bacteria that caused a heart attack on Christmas Day. He was recovering when on January 10th he had a massive stroke from which he never recovered. He died Tuesday, January 19, 1999. A memorial services will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 3958 N. Bank Street, Kingman, AZ on Saturday, January 30, 1999 at 2 p.m. Dr. Bill’s family invite all friends, former patients and colleagues as well as members to attend. The family requests that memorials be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Memorial Fund in lieu of flowers.”
