DOB and POB from BC (State file # 4810071)[TH-IL 83]. Barbara never married. She lived for her parents and cared for them, including her uncles and aunts. She worked for Harms and Nicholsons Accountants in Rock Island, and the John Deere Harvester Credit Union (loan officer) until she retired owing to her cancer. She lived vicariously through her brother, Bill’s, family and kids. [Notes from Rita Mangelsdorf, 2002, TH-IL 58].

Died of cancer of the liver according to Rita Mangelsdorf [TH-IL 57]. DC State File #109102 [TH-IL 82]. reports cause of death as anasarca due to acute protein-calorie malnutrition resulting from metastatic colon adenocarcinoma. She also suffered from diabetes, arterial hypertension and obesity. Cancer of the colon with liver metastases was discovered from an operation in May 1995. DOD and POD from DC as above. Obituary from The Rock Island Argus, June 28, 1997 [TH-IL 197]: “BARBARA MANGELSDORF Barbara Jean Mangelsdorf, 59, Rock Island, died Wednesday, June 25, 1997, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island. Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rock Island, Reverend Eldor Haake officiating. Burial is in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Hodgson Funeral Home Ltd., Rock Island, with a prayer service by Rev. Brian Rossow, her nephew, at 6 p.m. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church and School, Immanuel Bell Choir or American Cancer Society. Miss Mangeldorf was born Feb. 25, 1938, in Rock Island, the daughter of Edward W. and Edna M. Theus Mangelsdorf. She was a 1955 graduate of Rock Island High School and attended Western Illinois University. She was employed for 19 years by the former Harms & Nicholson Accounting Firm, Rock Island, as a bookkeeper and office manager. She later was employed at Deere Harvester Credit Union as a loan officer for over 15 years, retiring in 1996 due to ill health. She was a life member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she had sung in the choir; a member of Lutheran Womens’ Missionary League, where she held various offices; charter member of Paddlewheel Chapter, ABWA; and also served on the Immanuel Lutheran Foundation. She enjoyed traveling, playing games, golf and fishing. Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. William and Rita Mangelsdorf, Kingman, Ariz., nephews and spouses, Dr. David and Karen Mangelsdorf, Dallas, Texas, Peter and Lisa Mangelsdorf, Tucson, Ariz., and Dr. Timothy and Linda Mangelsdorf, Kingman, Ariz.; a niece and spouse, Rev. Brian and Rebecca Rossow, Perkasie, Penn., a great niece, Alyssa Mangelsdorf, great-nephews, Derek, David, Jesse and Luke Mangelsdorf and Jared and Nigel Rossow, many cousins and special friends, and an uncle, Herman Mangelsdorf, East Moline.”
