William LOGIE was born 12nov1782 in Fochabers, Morayshire and died 17jun1853 in Kingston, Ontario, Canada (R. Huggard). William was probably born 12nov1781 at Edinburgh, son of Alexander Logie and Agnes Clunie (IGI). William joined the 92nd Regiment in 1800, transferred to the 97th as captain and was promoted to Major in 1808. He fought in the Peninsular War in 1809. from 1825 to 1828 he was senior military representative in Ceylon. He was co-founder of Queens University, Kingston, Ontario in 1839. His portrait is still there. His 2nd wife was Anne Smith (1784-1868) whom he married 2feb1822 in Banff, Banffshire, Scotland (IGI). Anne SMITH was born at Pilgair, Gamrie, Banffshire (R. Huggard), 30mar1784 and christened 9apr1784 (IGI), daughter of Alexander SMITH and Barbara BARCLAY. Anne SMITH died 10mar1868 at Kingston, Ontario (R. Huggard) . William LOGIE (b. 1782) and Anne SMITH had the following children: M i Alexander LOGIE was born 16dec1823 at Rosefield, Nairnshire (R. Huggard) and christened 12jan1724 at Croy and Dalcross, Inverness (IGI).. F ii Barbara LOGIE was born 31jul1825 at sea (R. Huggard). There is an interesting account of his experiences being attacked by pirates on the ship „Morning Star“ in 1829. With the 2 last children, his 2nd wife, Anne, son Alexander, and daughter Mary LOGIE, of his 1st marriage, he emigrated to Canada in 1832, apparently (R. Huggard). References
