Facts and Events
Alexander Logie, the son of Major William Logie and Anne Smith, was born on the 16th of December, 1823, at Rosefield, Nairnshire, Scotland, and died on the 10th of December, 1873, at “Templands” (77 Markland Street) in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. While his father, mother, and sister Barbara were in Ceylon (1825-1828), Alexander was left in Scotland with his aunt Mary (Logie) Black (it is unclear who Mary was). Alexander immigrated to Kingston, Ontario, in 1832, with his parents, sister Barbara, and stepsister Mary. He attended Upper Canada College in Toronto, Ontario, and enrolled at Aberdeen University in 1841. He was called to the bar in 1847, and started his law career in the office of John A. Macdonald in Kingston. Later he moved to Hamilton, Ontario, where, in October, 1854, he was appointed a Judge of Wentworth County. He married Mary Ritchie Crooks on the 27th of October, 1852, at West Flamborough, Ontario. She was the daughter of John Crooks and Mary Lawrason, and was born on 21st of January, 1827, at Niagara-on-the-Lake, and died on the 8th of April, 1900, Templands, Hamilton, Ontario (information from R. Huggard). References
