William LOGIE (according to the birth record), who became known as Sheriff William Alexander LOGIE, was born 18 dec 1808 in Barony parish, possibly Greenfield (R. Huggard). His father was William, Captain Logie (scotlandspeople website). He married Jane Hewit BLACK 1jun1837 in Barony parish. He died 15nov1872 in Airdrie (R. Huggard). The will is registered 19dec1872 at Scottish Archives of William LOGIE, Sheriff substitute of Lanarkshire, spouse of Jane Hewat LOGIE or BLACK, resident at Cambroe House, Bellshill, nr. Airdrie, Lanarkshire. In 1826 when Margaret McNair nee Barton made up her will William apparently lived at Gayfield Place, Edinburgh. William worked at the Small Debt Court, Glasgow, according to his obituary and in 1855 lived at 77 St. Vincent St., Glasgow; William wrote to his half brother Alexander Logie in Hamilton, Ontario, in 1856 reporting news about John Miller “Johnnie” McNair and Wilsone Black (R. Huggard). The Glasgow PO Directory 1841 listed William Logie, writer, 76 St. Vincent St. house 13 Blythswood Sq. In 1841 Jane and William (b.1809 Lanarkshire), writer, lived with 2 servants at 13 Blythswood Sq., Glasgow (census). In 1851 Jane H. Logie (b.1817 Linlithgow), William Logie (b.1809 Barnes Park, Lanarkshire), W. S. and procurator, Glasgow and ?? Sherriff Court, Glasgow, and his sister in law Ann Maxwell Black (b.1830 Barony) lived at Bardowie House, Baldernock, Stirlingshire (census). In 1855 they were living at 77 St. Vincent Street, Glasgow (R. Huggard). In 1871 Mary Logie (b. Trone, Ayrshire, according to ancestry.com, probably Troon) lived at Cambroe House, Bothwell, Lanarkshire, with William Logie (b. 1809 Barony), sheriff “lab” of Lanarkshire, and Jane H. Logie (b. 1817 Linlithgow) (census). William presumably married the daughter of the brother-in-law (James BLACK) of his aunt (Margaret MCNAIR, born 1778, married 1796 John BLACK of Claremont).
