BIOGRAPHY: William KNIGHT married Roxanna ALGER from Boston, Erie County, NY. They had (5) children: William C., Marsena M., Orfany (Fanny), Permelia, and Phila KNIGHT. They also lived in Freedom, Cattaraugus County, NY but moved to Clinton County, IA in 1838. Would have had to come to Iowa between Oct. 1835 and Oct. 1838 based on children's birthplaces (came to Iowa in 1838 per obituary for his daughter, Marcena M. KNIGHT). Location of death strongly evidenced by 1840 and 1850 census of Clinton County, Iowa. Also, cross-reference 1830 and 1860 censuses for Freedom, Cattaraugus, NY. The 1860 census for Gordon (Gorton) Knight shows Gorton's son Edward G. Knight with children born in Iowa. Edward G. Knight was the key to this discovery. From: "History of Cattaraugus County, New York" page 393-394: "The following is a list of resident landowners, town of Freedom, for the year 1835, showing the number of acres owned and improved by each: Owned. Died in "The State of Iowa" per Harold Stanley KNIGHT and the Alger Cemetery listings in Clinton County, Iowa.
