BIOGRAPHY: Author: Chris Knight Date: 26 Sep 1998 12:00 PM GMT Further research since my last query on William and Rosanna KNIGHT shows that their son, William C. KNIGHT (born 1830-31 in New York)was living in Olive Township in the town of Calamus in Clinton County, Iowa. William C. KNIGHT's sister, Permelia (or Parmelia) KNIGHT (born 1840-41 in Iowa) was living with him along with Permelia's husband, Richard CUSHMAN (born 1835-36 in Ohio), and their son, Leroy CUSHMAN (born 1858-1859 in Iowa). Also, in the same household was Arthur HILL, age 4, born in Iowa. He was probably adopted. William C. KNIGHT was a soldier in the civil war in the Iowa 26th Infantry Company D. His father, William KNIGHT (Sr.) (born 1803 in NY, died 1841) would have to be buried in (or near) Calamus. Does anyone have this info? TIA. Chris Knight OBITUARY: "Wheatland Gazette" Wed. 31 Jan 1900: "Wm. Knight, the first settler of this township, died of pneumonia on Saturday, after only a few days illness, 69 years of age. The funeral occurred on Monday. The large concourse assembled to witness the last sad rites bore testimony of the esteem the citizens felt toward deceased." The "Wheatland Gazette" is a newspaper from the town of Wheatland in southwest Clinton County, Iowa. |
