OBITUARY: From the newspaper "Clinton Herald" page 3 on Tuesday, 9 April 1895: "Death of Mrs. Marcena Owen, Calamus, April 5 - (Correspondence) -- Died at her home at Calamus, April 1, 1895, Mrs. Marcena M. Owen, aged 59 years and 8 months. Mrs. Owen's maiden name was Marcena M. Knight. She was born Aug. 28, 1835 at Catterganst, New York. She came west in 1838 and was married to E.F. Owen in 1853. She leaves a husband and five children to mourn her loss. The funeral was held Wednesday and was attended by a large number of friends and relatives. Among those from abroad who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Dan. Conwell, of Blairstown, and Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Jennings, of Eagle Grove."

From the newspaper "Wheatland Gazette" on Wed. April 3 1895: "Mrs. E.F. Owens, aged 59 years, 7 months and three days, died at her home in Calamus, April 1st, at 10 o'clock, a.m., of pneumonia. The funeral will take place Wednesday at the M.E. church, at 10 o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. Owens have lived happily together for 40 years and raised a large family that were universally respected."
