BIOGRAPHY: No entry of date of death in Ralph KNIGHT's family Bible. The last entry in the family Bible is for Phila KNIGHT who died in 1863. Therefore, I assume that George KNIGHT died after 1863 unless there is an omission on Ralph KNIGHT's part by not recording George KNIGHT's date of death. Update: Auburn, Placer County, CA cemetery listing gave his date of death: Aug. 21, 1879. The date of birth given in the cemetery listing was Oct. 28, 1810 - exactly a year off from the date entered in Ralph KNIGHT's Family Bible (Oct. 28, 1809).

"George KNIGHT, son of Noel and Martha, is supposed to be in California. Seven years since, he left his wife and 4 children in Ohio; he has not been heard from in 3 years. Can learn nothing more of him" - page 41 (from book "Descendants of Banfield Capron" by Frederick A. Holden, pub. 1859 in Boston).

I also have a George KNIGHT (although I'm not sure of a Barton KNIGHT) in my family tree who lived in Ohio. The George KNIGHT in my branch was born 28 Oct 1809 in New Woodstock, Madison County, New York. He got married in or moved to Ohio, had 4 children then (poof!) he disappears! I took this from my grandfather's (Harold S. Knight) research in the 1940's: "George KNIGHT, son of Noel and Martha, is supposed to be in California. It has been seven years since he left his wife and 4 children in Ohio. He has not been heard from in 3 years. Can learn nothing more of him." Then there is a reference to page 41 of an unknown (no title given) book. Later, in 1870 in New Woodstock, Madison, New York (per census), a Horatio KNIGHT shows up on the same land as my g-g-g-grandfather, Ralph KNIGHT, with a wife, and an older person named Cornelia KNIGHT (age 54). Is this George KNIGHT's family (wife and a child)? All the other pieces of the genealogical puzzle are in place as far as other siblings are concerned.

MARRIAGE: George KNIGHT married Elvira STIVERS from Meigs County, OH. They had (5) children: Noel, Matilda, Lewis W., John S., and Malvina KNIGHT. George KNIGHT left his family in OH to go west with the 49-ers. His 2nd marriage was to Elizabeth DEMAREE who was born in OH.
