From Darrell Jackson: "It is known that David (William's father) was in Campbell County by 1830 based on the census records. David is not listed as owning land in Carter County, but on 24 April 1824 he along with 3 other citizens of Carter County proved (witnessed?) a land sale in Carter County. Since this is 3 years after William R. Jackson was born . . . this is the best evidence of William's birthplace."

Not a remarkable life until you learn among other things that he represented Morgan County at the Greenville Convention in 1861. His brother-in-Law JOSEPH ALEXANDER COOPER who was to become a Major General represented Campbell County. A total of 30 East Tennessee Counties participated in this convention in an attempt to prevent secession from the Union. The document that these Pro-union delegates drew up, signed and delivered to the Govenor was called a "Declaration of Grievances Adopted at the Greenville Convention."

"In a 1908 speech given by William Riley Cooper he states: "He [William Jackson] was a Baptist preaacher; a shoe-maker and a blacksmith and a very useful man in his calling and trades; a man of benevolent spirit and fine personal appearance."

"On 24 October 1857 he recorded the sale of land to David Sharp. The land was located on Cove Creek in Campbell Co., TN. This was land that his wife Mahala Cooper inherited from her father. This deed is recorded in the Campbell Co., TN deed book O (as in Ohio) on page 184."

"His younger brother George, 14 years old, is living with him during the 1860 Morgan County Census dated 14 Jun 1860. They were living in Crooked Fork, TN."

"William is found in the 1870 Census of Crooked Fork, Morgan Co., TN. Only the last nine of his children and his wife are living in the household."
