The Daughters of David Jackson and his two wives
by Darrell H. Jackson

This mystery is common to all researchers of female ancestors. Through the early part of this century it seems that once they left daddy's home, women disappeared into the void of records maintained in their husbands name.

I could write a book about what I don't know about these women. All four were born and lived in Campbell County, Tennessee. I have not been able to find their descendants or other researchers. Because of this I feel that I have a psychic connection to them. Feeling them, almost hearing them. Demanding that we dig them up, get them out into the light and exposure of todays interest in genealogy. They want their story told.

My hope is that someone out there will recognize one of these women as their Great Grandmother, Aunt or something and will share their story with the rest of this family.

What I (Darrell) have learned about these four daughters of David Jackson is detailed on my website: http://www.tngenweb.org/campbell/family/djack.html.
Janie: Do see the website for much more detail.

Some notes from Darrell Jackson: "Sarah was probably named after her mother, Sarah Low. In the 1850 Campbell Co., TN census she is listed as 1 yr old.

"She is listed in the 1860 Jacksboro, Campbell Co, TN census at 15 years old and being an 'inmate' in the household of Franklin Mowl 27, his wife Louisa 22 and daughter Uriah 3 months. All born in TN. Sarah's age is either in error or purposely misrepresented. Her age is actually 11 yrs old. See next entry, which is 10 yrs later.

"She is listed in the 1870 Jacksboro, Campbell co, TN census as being 21 years old and a House Keeper in the household of a Eliza Moul, 32 and no husband but 5 children, Eura 10, George 8, James 4, John 2 and Kate 1. All born in TN. (Janie: there is no mention of these children 10 years later in the 1880 census.)

"Sarah Jackson married William Day on 5 Mar 1871 in Campbell Co, TN. This is listed in Book A of the county Marriage Book. I (Darrell) viewed this book during my visit in July 2000. . ."
